Metatron’s Cube

Before I was a metalsmith, I collected jewelry like it was my job. My grandma and my mom made sure I had good taste, and when I was old enough to afford more than a bubble gum trinket, I started saving up to buy silver jewelry from Metatron’s Cube, LLC – Decatur, IL. Haven’t heard of it? I bet you remember The Shop on 48 in South Shores. (Before it was The Shop, it used to be a little freestanding bait and tackle shop.) It was so cute and owner Jessica filled it with all of the best crystals, jewelry, incense, spiritual and metaphysical trinkets, tapestries, cool boho clothes, glass, and herbal supplies.

A few years ago, The Shop moved into a bigger location on Franklin Street in the old Poland’s Glass building and changed their name to Metratron’s Cube. New name, bigger space, and even more fun stuff to buy!

●Gorgeous sterling silver and gemstone rings and amulets (I make jewelry but this is where I turn people for a wide variety of beautiful silver rings!)
●Gemstone bead bracelets
●Crystals and trinkets to add to your good vibe collections
●Tarot and oracle cards
●Boho clothes from tie dye to patchwork in natural fibers like cotton and silk and linen
●Bags and purses
●Books, journals, and boxes
●A huuuuge variety of incense and burners
●Band tees
●Tapestries
●Glass & Pipes

University Dogs

We were out delivering my handmade jewelry on Monday and stopped by one of our faves – University Dogs! I love Chicago style hot dogs, and my mom wanted to try their chili dog. Both fantastic, and as always they have the best sweet potato fries. Truly my favorite.

We usually get them to go and take them to the park but wanted to just eat in this week. Our meals were about $8 per person. Can’t beat it.

Their menu is a mix of different hotdog and polish sausage options, plus a condensed menu of Taqueria La Perlita dishes!

Wabash Depot Antique Center

Cerro Gordo Street is a thrifter, antiquer, and junker’s delight. I recently found myself in Wabash Depot on the hunt for a vintage mink stole. I found a few, but not the length I was hoping for. But I, of course, found other treasures. (A rose quartz elephant, a strand of gemstone beads, a vintage glass candy jar, a photo book on the history of Oreana, and a funnel for canning – I’m gonna learn this year!).

Wabash Debot has been an antique store for 23 years and hosts 40+ vendors! From authentic turquoise jewelry to enormous antique furniture with a million drawers to taxidermy and uranium glass and fun collectibles, you’ll need a whole afternoon to see it all.

And if you poke around in some of Troy Taylor’s Haunted Decatur Books, you’ll find out that there just might be more than just spooky dolls haunting the depot. 👻

Also you can probably find some of his books there! 😅 Truly, they’ve got it all.

**Extra fun fact since I’ve got a pic in here of a Raggedy Ann & Andy booth. Did you know the Annabelle doll in the movie series The Conjuring (the Ed & Lorraine Warren stories) is actually a Raggedy Ann doll? They spiced her up for the movies because she just doesn’t look creepy enough. Raggedy Ann & Andy originated right down the road in Arcola!

And note, this place is not creepy at all. Just lots and lots of history!
